Research papers should describe work that advances the current object technology. Experience papers should be of broad interest and will be evaluated based on the new insights they provide into the application of object technology. The programme committee will evaluate each contributed research and experience paper based on its relevance, significance, clarity, originality, and correctness. Suggested topics related to the object-oriented paradigm include, but are not limited to: - Object-oriented language constructs - Theoretical foundations, formal methods - Distributed object-oriented systems - Implementation techniques - Mobile objects - Multi-agent systems - Design patterns - Object-oriented frameworks - Object-oriented analysis and design methods - Reflection, adaptability, composability and reusability issues - Object-oriented databases and object persistence - Concurrent, real-time, parallel systems - Support of object-oriented systems and languages - Object-oriented garbage collection distributed as well as non-distributed - Security issues - Domain analysis techniques and software architectures - Analysis and transformation of object-oriented programs - Interpretation and compilation of object-oriented programs - Aspect-oriented programming - Experiences with any of the above topics Contributions for special sessions on Distributed Mobile Objects and on Object Implementation Techniques are specifically solicited. PAPERS MUST BE SUBMITTED IN TWO PHASES: In the first phase, the abstract of the paper must be provided electronically via e-mail using a standard format no later than November 24, 1997. Submission will be possible starting October 24, 1997. Exact submission information including the standard format for abstracts can be obtained from the web site listed below. In the second phase, six copies of the full paper must be submitted in English, double-spaced and not longer than 10,000 words in length, before December 1, 1997. Electronic submissions will not be accepted. Papers arriving late or clearly longer than the limit may be rejected immediately, without being reviewed. The authors will be notified as soon as possible whether or not their paper will be reviewed. DEADLINES: Submission information available: October 1, 1997 Electronic submission starting date: October 24, 1997 Electronic abstract submission: November 24, 1997 Full paper submission: DECEMBER 1, 1997 Notification of acceptance: February 9, 1998 Camera ready copies: March 30, 1998 Conference: July 20 - 24, 1998, Brussels, Belgium DETAILED SUBMISSION INFORMATION Submission details will become available on the ECOOP=B998 web site (http://ecoop98.vub.ac.be/) from October 1, 1997. Proposals for high-quality tutorials in all areas of object-orientation from academic research to industrial applications are solicited. Tutorial levels may be introductory, intermediate and advanced. Novel topics and topics of broad interest are preferred. Proposers can get the guidelines for tutorial submission via WWW (http://ecoop98.vub.ac.be/guidelines/tutorial.html). Both plain paper and electronic submissions are accepted. Workshops serve as a forum for exchanging emerging, late breaking research ideas. They typically focus on in-depth or cross-domain areas related to object-oriented technology. Workshops may last 1 or 2 days and will be held on Monday (July 20) and Tuesday (July 21). We are now soliciting ECOOP'98 workshop proposals. Proposers can get the guidelines for workshop submission via WWW (http://ecoop98.vub.ac.be/guidelines/workshop.html). DEADLINES: Workshop proposals: December 1, 1997 Notification of acceptance: January 15, 1998 Workshop call for papers: February 15, 1998 PROPOSALS SHOULD BE SUBMITTED TO: Serge Demeyer ECOOP'98 Workshop Chair IAM-SCG Neubruckstrasse 10 CH-3012 Bern, Switzerland Tel: +41 31 631 33 14, Fax: +41 31 631 39 65 E-mail: demeyer@iam.unibe.ch ***************************************************************** Panels ***************************************************************** Panel sessions addressing important and timely topics in object-orientation will be included in the main conference. They should present interesting and divergent views with solid practical and/or theoretical backing. A good panel session can be the highlight of the official programme for many attendees. Proposers should request the guidelines for panel proposals from the address below or get them via WWW (http://ecoop98.vub.ac.be/guidelines/panel.html). Technical members of the implementation teams are expected to give the demonstrations. Proposals are solicited for both commercial and in-house systems, as well as academic and corporate research. Demonstrations will be selected on the basis of technical merit, novelty and relevance to object-oriented technology. Product marketing or sales presentations are inappropriate for this forum. This may be especially useful for new ideas that have not yet been developed to the point of a regular paper. Ph.D. students are particularly encouraged to submit a proposal describing their work. Times will be arranged during the conference for poster authors to discuss their work directly with interested participants.
