Call for Papers for the 4th Working Conference on Reverse Engineering WCRE 97 6-8 October 1997 CWI, Amsterdam, The Netherlands The Working Conference on Reverse Engineering (WCRE) is the premier research-oriented conference dedicated to the theory and practice of recovering information from existing software and systems. The purpose of WCRE is to explore innovative methods of extracting the many kinds of information that can be recovered from software, software engineering documents, and systems artifacts, and to examine innovative ways of using this information, for example, to aid in system renovation. To enable meaningful discussion, attendance at WCRE 97 will be limited to 100 active researchers in Reverse Engineering and related fields. TOPICS OF INTEREST Topics of WCRE 97 include (but are not limited to) the following research directions in reverse engineering: * Experience reports on reverse engineering efforts * Case studies in reverse engineering * Integration of reverse engineering and forward engineering * Techniques and tools for system reengineering, renovation, and migration * Comparison and analysis of reverse engineering techniques and tools * The use of formal methods in reverse engineering * Domain modeling to support reverse engineering * Program Understanding SUBMISSION OF PAPERS Papers describe original and significant work in the research and practice of reverse engineering. Papers should be limited to 10 proceedings pages, at most 6000 words. Papers must not have been previously published nor have been submitted to, or be in consideration for, any journal, book, or other conference. All papers should explicitly state the goals of systems or approaches described and should use accepted, standard terminology (ref. IEEE Software, January 1990). WCRE 97 is accepting only electronic submissions. Papers should be in IEEE proceedings format sent as a single Postscript file. Contact one of the Program Chairs before sending other file types. Email submissions to: wcre.submissions@computer.org IMPORTANT DATES Deadline for papers: May 2, 1997 Notification of acceptance: June 23, 1997 Camera ready copies due: July 15, 1997 SPONSORS WCRE 97 is sponsored by: * IEEE Computer Society TCSE Committee on Reverse Engineering (pending) * Reengineering Forum with assistance from: * CWI, Amsterdam, The Netherlands. * ID Research B.V., Gouda, The Netherlands * SION, The Netherlands * University of Amsterdam, The Netherlands * Elsevier Science B.V. * others pending... PUBLICATION Proceedings of the Working Conference will be published by IEEE Computer Society Press. Earlier WCRE proceedings are also available (cs.books@computer.org; phone +1-714-821-8380 or +1-800-CS-BOOKS). RELATED CONFERENCE Attendees should note that WCRE 97 will conveniently be held the week following the International Conference on Software Maintenance.
